I used a 10cm length of 4mm dowel for the core. I then used two strips, both 10 1/2 cm long (half the width of A4 paper). The strip to go around the top of the bobbin was 1/2 cm wide, and the strip for the body of the bobbin was 7 cm wide. I used glue along the complete narrow strip, and around the edges of the wide piece.
